Good question. When I refer to a “bad” image, I don’t necessarily mean that it’s bad for me. I just mean bad in the sense that people think I am constantly stealing and aren’t going to lay down any hands to me. Obviously that can be a very good image to have if you happen to pick up a hand.

The deeper you get into the tournament, the better it is to have a very solid image that lets you get away with stealing pots uncontested. However, correct strategy is also usually to attempt to steal a lot of pots, so that’s a tough image to maintain. Thus, I prefer to cultivate the image of a very tough LAG who doesn’t give up pots easily. This discourages people from restealing or from trying to call me light, if they are afraid that I will put them to the test.

Can you elaborate on something in this post. You mentioned that you “ran your image into the ground” and later your “image was still terrible”. Can you explain the image you were going for and how you lost it?
