Episode 63: Richard “Tzen1” Veenman

Richard Veenman is a Dutch fixed limit hold ’em player with a lot of charisma and a big personality. At the start of 2014, he retired from both professional poker and PokerStars Team Online. In addition to the difficulties of balancing a day job with a serious poker career and his decision to retire, Richard also discusses the Dutch poker scene, how he got started, why he never followed the crowd to no-limit hold ’em, and what representing a poker site meant to him.

You can follow Richard on Twitter @tzen1 and read his blog, in English, at http://www.tzen1.com/. If you’re disappointed that we didn’t talk limit hold ’em strategy with him, you can get your fix with videos like this one at Poker School Online.

  1. You talk a lot about playing poker at the Borgata on the show. Do you have an opinion of which casino between Parx and Borgata is better for NL $2/$5 and $5/$10 games?

  2. I shove that turn the as Nate was starting to mention. I know he said it’s bad. I tend to do it a lot and expect to get called by bluff catchers and sometimes by the draw I am representing. People tend to be suspicious of over bet shoves when there is a draw on board.

Richard sounds like a cool guy. I hope I get to meet him in Vegas this summer.
