Episode 77: Kristy Arnett

Kristy Arnett recently announced that she is stepping down from her long-time role as a producer, host, and writer for PokerNews. We talk to her about her career as well as her goals for the future, which include playing more poker, writing, and fitnessing. You can read and see more of Kristy on Twitter, her website, her YouTube channel, or her Under Armour Facebook page.

Despite our conversation at the end of the interview, my episode of Strategy with Kristy has not yet aired. I’ll update the show notes with a link once it’s available. In the meantime, you can hear me talk strategy on the Thinking Poker Premium Podcasts.

  1. I enjoyed the interview with Kristy. She seems like a very interesting person. I hope I get to meet her in Vegas now that she is a civilian. Her podcast is pretty good too.

  2. I almost put this one off, simply because I just heard her on the 2+2 pokercast. Glad I went ahead and listened to it (who am I kidding, I cannot let an episode of TPP sit unopened very long). Very good, mix of serious and fun, interview.

    • Glad to hear that, I’d meant to listen to that interview before doing ours but didn’t get around to it, so I just asked Kristy to try not to repeat herself and to tell us if we started asking the same questions. Glad you didn’t find it too repetitive.

  3. I met Kristy a bit after I was interviewed for Card Player Magazine in 2008. A nice young lady. But I found the episode lacking as she has such an interesting background family wise. I kinda wished you covered it. Half Vietnamese and half Korean growing up in the midwest. She calls herself “cute- but an asshole”. Perhaps we can find out more about her on the next after the summer. I always sensed a different deeper person behind all that smiles and laughter.

    • Thanks for the tip. I can’t speak for Nate, but personally I’m always interested in our guest’s backgrounds. I never know how much the audience will care since it isn’t really poker-related, and also (I worry) some people consider it a more personal subject than they were expecting to discuss on a poker podcast. So unless I know about something specific to ask, my own philosophy is to see whether the guest chooses to volunteer any information along these lines. It’s good to know that Kristy is worth probing further – hopefully next time, as you suggested!

  4. When you do “probe Kristy further” I suggest a HD Stream to go along with that audio
