Episode 127: Scooping the SCOOP

The SCOOP is underway, and so Andrew and Nate grab time to record when they can, with Andrew playing a $200 PLO8 event during the show! The two discuss the various ways to run bad, some hands that arise as Andrew plays, some hands Andrew already played, and some listener questions.

Note from Andrew: I’m in a hurry at the moment and don’t have time post hand histories for the strategy segment. I’ll update this post with them when I get the opportunity. Off to Vegas in the morning!

  1. I doubt I will be the only one to say this, but I thought the show was fine and I enjoyed it. It showed that, even when you are a really good player like Andrew, you can still make mistakes that you would have probably avoided if you had the time to think the decision through. I really hope you guys do something with Twitch soon and on a regular basis. That goes for you too, Carlos!

Anyway, this was a long way from being the worst episode. The top 50 worst shows all involved interviews. The ones featuring Shaniac did the least for me, other than to help me understand why half of the active American electorate choose to vote Republican.

    😉

    Good luck in Vegas, Andrew!

    • Thanks for the note, and I’m glad you liked the show OK! I’m also amused at the thought of your carefully curating a “50 worst TPP episodes” list.

Thanks also for the note about Twitch–I think it’s interesting, and I’m grateful to know what sorts of things people want us to produce.

  2. 4 hour and 29 minute drive to Vegas boys. listened to you the whole way, thanks for making it a quick trip

    • This makes me smile. The beginning-of-summer trip to Vegas still, for me, has a romance all its own. I hope you’re full of anticipation and I’m very glad to have helped make your car ride go easily!

  3. The show was enjoyable – great to get live in-game thoughts from Andrew. The only thing it’s tougher to listen w/o giving your full attention – hand histories would help.

  4. I loved the episode as per usual. one thing that might make it even easier to follow is if you had a video of the table going with it (hole cards wouldn’t be necessary, so from Nates POV would be great). I constantly found myself wondering what situation was giving Andrew pause.

I realise its not very feasible given the extra work required for to do this, and the situation only arose due to time constraints during scoop. But I imagine it would be similar to Nate and Gareths dual commentaries which i thought were amazing.

Unrealistic requests aside, keep up the good work!

  5. I have been cleaning up with online $11 PLO8 MTTs lately. Accordingly I really enjoyed the show as it helped to reinforce some of my thinking process. Carry on…

  6. Loved this episode, I will definately be listening to this one again when the hand histories are posted and I can follow the discussion a little better. Will you also be posting up the hands Andrew was actually palying as well? I found myself rewinding and writing things down so I could follow. I haven’t been able to play much poker lately and I’m almost never able to play as much as I’d like to so thanks for helping keep my mind fresh every week(podcasts) and every few days(blog)!! Good Luck at the WSOP, too!

  7. Love you guys of course but did not like this episode.

Way, way, way too hard to follow in a podcast format. It is hard enough to follow a PLO8 hand (so many cards 😉 ). Much too hard to follow two hands interleaved.

It may have worked fine on Twitch with the visual element.

  8. Enjoyed the podcast. Nice to stimulate my brain in a different way. Really good interaction between you two discussing the O/8 strategy. Good luck in Vegas!

  9. Thoroughly enjoyed an all strategy impromptu podcast. I loved the thinking in motion dynamic even for a game that I’ve never played (I prefer vanilla PLO).

I agree with others than an accompanying video would make casts like this even more successful.
