    • I see it on there now, I think it can take up to 24 hours to propagate after I click publish, sorry about that.

      • It is listed, but says “Episode Unavailable” when attempting to play.

No worries, will catch it off the site! May just be on my end, but thought you guys like might to know all the same.

  1. It may seem like minutia, but something as insignificant as the segment of the interview where Ron bashes Helmuth’s book shows a lot about why ThinkingPoker is so good. Helmuth can be arrogant, inconsiderate, and insufferable. He’s easy and fun to bash. Usually, Helmuth bashing is appropriate and warranted. Rather than take that easy, well-worn path, however, Nate chose to defend Helmuth’s book. His defense was deserved and excellently explained. Kudos to Nate for having the courage and integrity to disagree with his guest and give a detailed explanation as to why. Nate’s honest insight is one of the reasons the show is so good. Now, back to bashing Helmuth!

    • John,
      Fair point about Phil.
I was less trying to bash, and more trying to emphasize how bad it was for me to pick up that book at that stage of my game.
Super System seemed to intimidating, and I wish I would have stumbled on a game that was more math focused instead
      of Phil’s book.

I actually agree with you that he’s an easy target. But you can’t argue with his WSOP results.
I was pulling for him when he won his last one.

  2. As a Seattle area rec player, I enjoyed Ron’s insights and stories about how he got into poker and the local poker scene. The story about the guy at Tulalip using his enbalmed finger as a card protector was hilarious.

Towards the end of the podcast, Nate and Ron discuss the area card rooms. One remark I have, is that as a neighbor to Snoqualmie it has reduced its poker room size over the past year or so, and although games still run there, it is greatly diminished. Conversely, Tulalip has done a great job in raising its profile and renovating its room, but it’s over 45 minutes north of Seattle on the busy I-5 and out of reach for many rec players looking for a game without lots of travel. Muckleshoot in Auburn is a viable alternative, with pretty decent daily tournaments (I just cashed there last week).

Ron, if you are seeking one or two decent home games to join, drop me a note. These are pretty small games, usually with a $100 – $200 buyin, perfect for guys like us (or at least me).

    • Sorry to report that Tulalip is also downsizing their poker operation within the next few days, from 20+ tables to 12. I doubt this will be as much of a death-blow as Snoqualmie’s changes, but we’ll have to wait and see…

    • …and, Mannes, if you’re willing to send home-game info to a non-radio-celebrity, I’d also be interested in Seattle area home-game info. I’m @hugepoker on twitter.

  3. Forgot to say: I’m thinking of getting bees, so I enjoyed that chat and will check out the links suggested. I think there are quirks about how it works in the UK but I’m sure I’ll get a lot out of it.

  4. I like at the end when Andrew was saying go to pokeracademy and Ron was like, no it’s THE pokeracademy. I was like OK you arrogant ahole! Then I realized it was a url.

Just kidding, but that would be how I’d write it in a sitcom about this episode.
