It's not usually going to be possible to cause opponents to fold such strong draws, nor should that be your primary objective. Instead, you should focus on the hands against which you are a big favorite (top pair with a worse kicker in particular) and think about how to win the most from them.

One thing still confuses me: if I have top pair/strong kicker after the flop, but there's 2 cards of the same suit (that I don't have), I tend to try to take the lead with a strong bet in order to make it too expensive for my opponent to chase the flush. Sadly, low stakes players don't even know what pot odds are, so they chase the flush anyway. Is this sensible, or have I missed the mark entirely? Please advise.

Excellent. Good comprehensive review of both sides of the aisle. I play a lot of 6-max sit-n-goes, so I often don't have sufficient time and data to label my opponent, ie, LAG, TAG, tight-passive, big bluffer, etc. Thus, the guidelines presented here give me an excellent game plan!
