Obviously I was looking to check-raise-shove the turn, and I think Villain probably realized that when the hand went to showdown. About 10 minutes later, this hand came up, and I thought that given that last hand he would probably bet-call his J’s and maybe even T’s on the turn, so I again went for a check-raise:

Hero ($1922.40)
Button ($675)

Preflop: Hero is BB with Kh, Kc.
Button raises to $12, Hero raises to $42, Button calls $30.

Flop: ($84) 4d, Js, Ts (2 players)
Hero bets $68.6, Button calls $68.60.

Turn: ($221.20) 2c (2 players)
Hero checks, Button checks.

It’s extremely unlikely that Villain checks a hand better than KK on the turn or that the 8 improves him to one, so I think I have functionally the nuts. I also think Villain will realize his hand is face-up as one weak pair. Hopefully he’ll still be willing to put me on a big draw that whiffed a turn check-shove…

River: ($221.20) 8h (2 players)
Hero bets $1811.8 (All-In), Button calls $564.40 (All-In).

Final Pot: $2597.40

Results in white below:

Hero has Kh Kc (one pair, kings).

Button has 4c Qc (one pair, fours).

Outcome: Hero wins $2597.40.

    • Mostly I don’t like his pre-flop call. If he thinks I’m capable of bluffing here, he needs to call the river with ~3/7 of his turn checking range because of the pot odds that he’s getting. I would play QQ this way, so I guess Q4 is an OK bluff catching candidate because it blocks a few of my value hands. If he ever checks back a J, that’s probably the best choice.
