There was a bit of history here, in that Villain had seen me check back the flop and then raise with a turned draw, and he was generally firing quite often when I didn’t continuation bet. Generally the hands I’d shown down after checking the flop were what you’d expect: medium-strength stuff like middle pair that I was playing for pot control/bluff catching. The problem with just calling with this hand is that it’s very vulnerable and at this point in the match, Villain is going to put me on essentially what I have. He can value bet virtually every hand better than mine and also bluff sometimes, generally making the river neutral-EV at best for me if I just call turn. Raising, however, protects my hand is is more likely to be misinterpreted by Villain.

  1. I fully agree that turn raising misrepresent your holding and is likely to be misinterpreted by Villain.
Is your turn raise an effective protection measure?
    a)Yes-avoid giving a free card
b)NO-make him to fold -I have problem to imagine villain holdings range to make easy fold.
c)NO- reduces liability to get bluffed.

The fundamental question is what range you represent by raising on turn on low, paired board in HU in deep stack scenario?
You represent more polarized range than your calling range .
You represent still very vulnerable range -the range which raises suspicions too.
My final thought is that your turn raise is not effective protection measure but enticing measure to call you raise or (re) bluff you.

    • Can’t it be both? I’m sure even if I induce some bluffs or loose calls from hands with two overcards, I imagine he folds them sometimes.

  2. It can be both.I exaggerated no-fold range to stress my point.
You wrote that protection was one of your main reasons for turn raise.
My observation was that that your misrepresentation counterfeits protections to some extent.
My perception was that inducing some bluffs or loose calls from overcards are in contentions to protection.
