… and Done.

Andrew busted at EPT Madrid shortly after the dinner break Day 1A.

I expect he’ll post a more thorough recounting tomorrow, but he did have a Spanish friend relay the busto hand info for me to share –

It was shortly after dinner break, with blinds at 300/600, Andrew had around 45.000.

Young aggro player with big stack opened to 1400 UTG+1, then UTG+2 called, and MP1 3-bet to 4200.

Andrew 4-bet to 14,000 from the CO with AK suited, and it got folded around to the 3-bettor, who called. Then flop came AQx, the other guy openshoved for around 30,000 (close to the pot size), Andrew called and the guy had QQ for a set of queens.

Thanks Nicolás!

  1. Hmmm.. atleast the way its written up, surprised how Andrew woulda called the flop shove.
Will wait for the trip report.

    • It’s a weird shove, and one I wouldn’t really expect most people to make with a very strong hand. Of course assuming there’s no flush draw I wouldn’t expect them to shove weaker hands either (maybe AJ?). Assuming villain is not thinking on a very high level (it appears that he isn’t to me), it might very well be possible to put him on AQ, QQ, or AA given enough history.

As much as I love making fun of Phil Hellmuth, this is the kind of spot against a weaker player where I think he is able to find the fold more often then the vast majority of internet players, assuming it is correct to do so.

That said, without a decent read or history AK is probably just too strong a hand to be folding here. I would generally expect villain to have AK as well a lot of the time, sometimes have a hand that you dominate, and sometimes have a hand that dominates you. If that’s the case then pot-odds dictate a call. Of course if you can eliminate the possibility of them having a worse hand (so that they have AK or better), then you could justify a fold.

      • Bond pretty much hit it on the head. The guy was definitely a weak player who probably would open ship AJ here. I can’t say for sure that he would have called the 4-bet with that hand, but it wouldn’t have shocked me. Maybe he also has AK, maybe he finds a way to have a flush draw, and I didn’t necessarily expect him to play AQ/QQ/AA this way (though it doesn’t shock me that he did and I actually don’t think it’s that bad, though those two things are unrelated).

  2. Really lame spot, doubt he ever plays AA like this, but QQ and AQ plausible.

I would be somewhat surprised if he 3-bet AJ pre. I think we’re calilng praying to chop here mostly.

That being said, doubt im folding as hero, but never happy to call.
