  1. I find the discussion about modern players vs older card players ability interesting. When he says that they wouldnt rank in the top 5000. What about todays champions like Phil Ivey, John Hennigan, or Nick Schulman? From what I know they arent math or theory based. Yet they still have the innate ability to win. The players of old knew the art of survival. Adjusting to every situation and keeping one step ahead of the masses. Somewhere along the line Sklansky does not allow for that.

    • I don’t know as much about Hennigan, but Ivey and Schulman surely understand theory. They may also grasp some intangibles that younger players whose play is more heavily solver-based do not, but I don’t think it’s right to say they aren’t math or theory based.
