Gareth Chantler TCOOP Madness!

Huge congratulations to Gareth Chantler for chopping last nights $215 Knockout tournament in the Turbo Championship of Online Poker. He locked up $97,000 plus another $1000 in bounties, and the best part is that the only reason he played the tournament is that he was assigned to cover it for the PokerStars blog. The resulting write-up is, as you might expect, pretty amusing.

If you don’t know who Gareth is, start by listening to our first interview with him. If you find his story compelling, and I think you will, he’s been on the show a few more times and also written some very enjoyable pieces about his travels for the PokerStars blog.

  1. Great exit interview, Gareth. The interviewer asked incisive questions, the interviewee gave inspiring responses. Congrats on the score.

    • Thanks Sean! I thought the interview was good as well, but the interviewer reported the Shakespeare citation incorrectly. Should be 1.1.176-180 (not 1.1.170-174). Maybe the interviewee was too tired to remember properly, or the interviewer didn’t check his facts!

Since (through my own independent investigation) the woman to whom the comments are directed remains unaware of recent events, seems like a no harm, no foul type situation.

More seriously, thanks. And thanks to AB, NM, and the TP community (Carlos, Leo, PieFarmer et al) for the support.

      Ran so filthy.

  2. Sweet! And to be in Phuket as well. Wow! More books for the kindle, more tunes for your iTunes account. Life is good. Another podcast is in order> Hope youre enjoying the Durian!

  3. Thanks keone– I have yet to dabble in the durian. Maybe I’ll love it I don’t know haha. But there are enough novelties here (insanely spicy food, fried insects at food stalls, lady-boys…) from my perspective that I’m wading in slow on the durian front. It is banned from the place I’m staying in right now. And this hostel owner I made friends with went on an epic rant the other day about Chinese tourists opening up durian (without any warning) in the dorms and annihilating hapless, unsuspecting fellow travelers they happened to be sharing the space with.

    Thanks also Sean, FHP, Russ.

    • You know when someone is really old, and never leaves there house, and it has this awful old person + must + god-knows-what smell?

Well someone brought it durian candies back to school after the winter break. It was the consistency of taffy, and it tasted like I was eating the inside of that old-person house, maybe with some dirty socks thrown in. I was able to tolerate a bit of chewing, but didn’t see any need to actually swallow it.

  4. Congrats on the big score, Gareth! Enjoy the extra travel it affords. Looking forward to the next Borderline Gambling.

  5. Excellent news Gareth, i was genuinely stoked when i heard tell.AFAIC this is the start of a stellar career with many cashes of a similar ilk to follow.

  6. Funny you should mention that my son, by strange coincidence i already had a ten step plan already mapped out for you should this “affaires de coeur” rear its’ ugly little head!

  7. Correct me if i am wrong Andrew or Nate but, it seems to me that people who get interviewed on the show, seem to get a case of the run-good’s. Once this information becomes well known, ….how could anybody turn down a request for an appearance on the show.
    Sooo happy for GC.

  8. Congratulations GC! I always enjoy your appearances on the #nitcast, and your write-up was pretty damn funny.

    Here’s to more #rungood.
