I Am the Champion, My Friends

Full Tilt Poker hosted a Tournament of Champions today for everyone who won an FTOPS event in any of the last four series. The only prize was a $10,000 WSOP seat (no details whatsoever on how/whether it can be cashed out) to the winner, and guess who that was?

To be fair, there were only 104 runners, and about 30 of them didn’t even show. Here are a few hands from the road to victory:

This is Why AQ is a Good Bluffcatcher

It’s got equity when he’s not bluffing. FWIW he’d been a total LAGtard up to this point.

K, This One Was Kinda Lucky

My HU opponent was zhivago2, winner of the previous FTOPS main event and a guy I’d actually played a fair bit with in the 2-day event that I won. He came in with a 3:1 chiplead, but I won a few small pots and then equalized it with this one:

I took a few more small pots off with him, and eventually he realized he was getting killed postflop. He started just monkey-shoving for like 5-10x the size of the pot. He won our first all-in confrontation, but later I snapped him off with 55 and doubled through his K2. There was some more monkey-shoving, and I eventually picked up TT and caught him with 97o for 21BB’s.

I tried for a while but couldn’t find any information about whether I’m required to play the seat (don’t think Harrah’s will let them do that) or if I’d have to wear their gear or anything like that. The way they are structuring their incentives this year, I don’t really want to play for them. They are giving everyone who cashes wearing FTP gear a free seat in the 2011 main event, but that means that an FTP patch is going to be an invitation to get raped on the bubble.

But anyway, it’s official: I’m the champion!

  1. You might at least try negotiating with them over the incentive structure. With three cashes in the last four years at the WSOP (including a very deep cash), the recent 450k win, and a successful blog, you should have more leverage than the average tourney donk. Also, tell them you’re pals with Lederer!
